There’s more changes at CNN.
“CNN This Morning,” which usually runs from 6 to 9 am, is packing up and heading to Washington, DC. Kasie Hunt’s gonna be taking the lead from 5 to 7 am. Before she joined CNN in 2021, she was rocking the mornings over at MSNBC, especially on “Morning Joe,” you know, that show that always brings in the big ratings for politics.
Now, CNN’s shaking things up a bit. They’re chatting with Harlow and Mattingly about switching up their roles. Thompson sent out a memo saying they’re pulling the plug on morning shows in New York, which means the team behind “CNN This Morning” is getting disbanded.
They’re not giving out numbers, but it sounds like a bunch of folks are gonna feel the impact. Thompson’s trying to spin it positively, though, saying they’re encouraging the New York crew to apply for new gigs in Atlanta and DC, as well as other spots in New York.
With all these changes, “CNN News Central” is kicking off two hours earlier, running from 7 am to 10 am. That means more fresh content for your morning routine.
Oh, and they’re filling those new hours with Jim Acosta at 10 am and Pamela Brown at 11 am. But since Brown’s on maternity leave, Wolf Blitzer’s stepping in for a bit.
This whole shake-up is like a major overhaul of CNN’s morning lineup. Licht, the guy who spearheaded “CNN This Morning,” didn’t quite hit the mark with his vision. Lemon got axed, Collins moved up the ladder, and Harlow’s holding down the fort solo now. Mattingly, who used to be their White House correspondent, joined the team last year.
Ever since Zucker left, CNN’s been struggling with viewership. Cable news in general is taking a hit, especially with Trump out of office. And Licht’s programming choices didn’t help matters either. Zaslav had enough and showed Licht the door last summer.
Now, CNN’s trying to get back on track. They’re tweaking their lineup, but it’s been a bumpy ride. Thompson even admitted in an interview that some folks just wanna hear what they already agree with. Tough times for CNN, but they’re not throwing in the towel just yet.
