RNZ has announced Kara Rickard (Ngāti Porou, Ngāti Koata, Tainui) as the new host of its flagship music programme Music 101 on RNZ National.

A seasoned radio and television broadcaster, Rickard has been a familiar voice on RNZ, co-hosting the holiday show On the Air with Mark Williams since 2022 and regularly filling in on Music 101.

Joining her on the programme is award-winning music journalist Tony Stamp, who will take on the role of producer. Stamp is well known to RNZ audiences as the host of The Sampler.

RNZ Chief Content Officer Megan Whelan says Music 101 is a cornerstone for music fans and musicians alike — a place where music from Aotearoa and beyond comes to life.

“It’s fantastic to confirm the team that will carry that legacy forward. Kara has already made an impression as an occasional presenter on RNZ National and we’re stoked to have her on board as the host of Music 101,” Whelan said.

“Kara and Tony bring infectious energy to the show, thanks to their presenting and producing talent, deep musical knowledge, and shared passion for music. We can’t wait for audiences to hear and see what they will bring to the show.”

Music 101 with Kara Rickard returns to air this Saturday from 1pm on RNZ National.
