RNZ is set to debut a new podcast and video series, Context, on Tuesday 19 August, pairing two of its most recognisable voices to unpack the stories shaping New Zealand.

Hosted by award-winning investigative journalist Guyon Espiner and Morning Report co-host Corin Dann, the “chatcast” takes listeners on a trip through history to answer a single question: how did we end up here?

Each episode focuses on a current headline, with one host arriving armed with research and expertise while the other comes in cold – creating a mix of insight and spontaneous curiosity. The roles swap each week.

RNZ says Context is designed to be an accessible and engaging way for New Zealanders to better understand how political decisions of the past continue to influence the present.

The series will be available from 19 August on rnz.co.nz/podcasts, major podcast platforms, and to watch on rnz.co.nz/video.
