RNZ is lining up a fresh batch of documentaries, podcasts and kids’ content next month, covering everything from the life of Joy Cowley to talking birds and Pacific athletes.
Joy, Full & Fearless – Monday 8 September
The month kicks off with Joy, Full & Fearless, a documentary on writer Joy Cowley. It traces the trauma and triumph of her life and career as one of New Zealand’s most widely published authors of both children’s and adult fiction. The film is produced by Krafty Productions with funding support from NZ On Air and will be available at rnz.co.nz/video.
No Stupid Questions with Susan Edmunds – Wednesday 17 September
Later in the month, RNZ money correspondent Susan Edmunds is fronting a new podcast called No Stupid Questions. The idea came from her own habit of prefacing interviews with CEOs and economists by saying, “sorry, this might be a stupid question, but…” The series aims to demystify money and personal finance, with listeners sending in questions for her to tackle. She makes clear it’s not personalised financial advice. Episodes drop from 17 September on rnz.co.nz/podcasts and all major podcast platforms.
My Favourite Dead Person S3 & Bird’s Eye View S2 – Friday 19 September
Kids’ programming gets a boost just in time for the school holidays. My Favourite Dead Person returns for a third season, with comedian Josh Thomson joining tamariki to reimagine New Zealand history through sketches that are equal parts funny and educational. Also back is the animated series Bird’s Eye View, where Tūī, Kererū, Pīwakawaka and Pūkeko kōrero about the strange world of humans and try to make sense of it all. Both shows land on 19 September at rnz.co.nz/video.
Outside the Lines – Monday 29 September
The month rounds off with Outside the Lines, a series that shines a light on the people behind some of Aotearoa’s Pasifika athletes. It explores everything from the daily juggle of sportswomen balancing jobs and motherhood to the ambitions of young athletes punching above their weight. Made with support from NZ On Air, it will be available at rnz.co.nz/video from 29 September.
