The NFL is back on Australian screens this Friday with the Dallas Cowboys facing reigning champions the Philadelphia Eagles in the season opener, live from Lincoln Financial Field.
Coverage starts at 10.00am AEST on 7mate and 7plus Sport, with Seven marking its 12th year as the official free-to-air broadcaster of the league in Australia.
Before kick-off, a revamped weekly show returns under a new name, NFL Tailgate. Hosted by former Super Bowl player Ben Graham alongside NFL commentator Cam Luke, the show will break down the latest news and talking points from around the league. It screens every Friday from 9.00am, leading directly into the live game coverage.
“This season is going to be massive. I’m expecting the closest season in decades,” Graham said. “Can the Eagles go back-to-back? Has the Chiefs’ dynasty ended? Will the 49ers bounce back? Will Micah Parsons be the difference in Green Bay? So many questions but all will be revealed over the coming months on the road to Super Bowl 60 in San Francisco.”
Graham also encouraged fans to keep an eye on the Australian talent playing in the NFL this year. “For Australian NFL fans, we can’t wait for a real NFL game at the MCG in Melbourne in September 2026 but this season, keep an eye on the best punter in the NFL, Michael Dickson of the Seahawks and of course, Super Bowl winning Offensive Line at the Eagles, Jordan Mailata. Strap yourselves NFL fans, this season is going to be wild.”
Last year Seven’s coverage reached 4.7 million Australians, up 6% from the previous season. The Eagles’ Super Bowl LIX victory over the Kansas City Chiefs in February drew more than 2.6 million viewers, with a national TV audience of 892,000.
Alongside Mailata and Dickson, other Australian players to watch this season include Luke Felix-Fualalo (Eagles), Laki Tasi (Raiders), Jeremy Crawshaw (Broncos), Patrick Murtagh (Broncos), Thomas Yassmin (Chargers), Tory Taylor (Bears) and Daniel Faalele (Ravens).
The 2025 NFL season kicks off tomorrow, Friday 5 September, with NFL Tailgate at 9.00am followed by the Cowboys-Eagles clash at 10.00am AEST.
