RNZ money correspondent Susan Edmunds has started a weekly podcast aimed at making personal finance easier to understand. No Stupid Questions with Susan Edmunds invites listeners to send in the queries they’ve always wanted to ask but were afraid might sound obvious.
Edmunds says the idea came from her own interviews. “I often start with ‘sorry this might be a stupid question, but…’, and this podcast gives listeners the opportunity to ask those questions too,” she said.
The first episode, out today, explains what GDP is and why the latest figures, due tomorrow, matter to consumers. It also begins a series on ways to earn more and tackles a listener question about pizza and hidden taxes.
Alongside the podcast, RNZ is launching On the money, a weekly newsletter landing on Wednesday afternoons. It will highlight the five most-read money stories of the week and share notable finance content. The first issue is scheduled for Wednesday 24 September.
RNZ head of news Mark Stevens said Edmunds has a knack for turning complex finance into plain language. “She has a brilliant knack for finding the stories that are relevant to New Zealanders and has been a popular addition on Morning Report every weekday,” he said. “The podcast and newsletter expand the places where Susan’s content will be, making it even more accessible to different audiences.”
No Stupid Questions with Susan Edmunds is available now at rnz.co.nz/podcasts and on major podcast platforms, and will also air Mondays at 7.30 pm on RNZ National. Sign-ups are open for the On the money newsletter.
Edmunds joined RNZ in mid-2024 after serving as Money Editor at Stuff. She began her journalism career reading news on Mai FM at 20, later working at More FM, Radio Live, the Northern Advocate and the Herald on Sunday. She has also published both financial and fiction books, including Starting Out, Starting Over: A single woman’s guide to money in New Zealand and the novel Mummy Needs Help.
